Silver Angels and Rabbits

These solid sterling silver angel and rabbit pendants are entirely hand-made, using a classical technique known as “lost wax” casting. Sissel carves the original in wax, a method requiring extreme accuracy. The original wax model is then embedded in a plaster investment mold, which takes on the exact pattern of the original piece. This mold, with the wax figure inside, is fired to a temperature that melts the wax, leaving a space the precise shape of the original carving. Into this investment mold, the artist injects liquid sterling silver, thus producing a silver piece that is cleaned, polished and hand finished. New wax replicas can then be made with a latex mold, thus reproducing the original piece. Each angel is fitted with a high-fired porcelain face, hand-painted with layers of acrylics and varnishes.
